Halloween has originated from an ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts often celebrated this each year and marked it as the end of summer and the beginning of a dark, cold winter, and they associated it with human death. They celebrated this event every October 31st because they believed it to be the time of year that the boundaries between the living and the dead would be blurred. The event was celebrated by wearing costumes and lighting a bon fire to protect them for the up-coming winter. Today, this national holiday is celebrated by wearing costumes and trick or treating around neighborhoods.
