Although it feels 2017 has barely started, Valentine’s Day is already approaching. Every year, millions of people around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is usually associated with chocolates, flowers, and of course, romance. An estimated $20 Billion dollars is spenton Valentine’s Day, many people don't know the origins of this holiday. Some people have most likely heard that the holiday is related to the Christian St. Valentines. It is said that St. Valentine was executed or at least buried on February 14th, which is why Valentine’s day is celebrated on February 14th. The exact reason St. Valentine was executed isn't agreed on by historians. One of the prevailing theories is that Valentine was persecuted for marrying young roman couples, which was illegal at the time, because the emperor thought that single men would make better soldiers.
Valentine’s Day is a very mysterious holiday, due to the fact that there
are many things that historians disagree over and many myths and legends surrounding this holiday. Today, Valentine’s Day is celebrated as a holiday about love, gifts, and friendship.
